Welcome to Clay
A small independent ceramics studio in the heart of Chapel Stow.
In our cosy space, we provide small relaxed classes that cover all aspects of ceramics including wheel throwing, coil building, the science of glazing and the magnificent process of Raku.
Regardless of if you are an absolute beginner or an experienced potter, Clay studio has classes at all skill levels, making ceramics accessible and fun for everyone.

Our friendly team are all expert ceramicists who have over 30 years of experience between us.
We are ready to guide you in making something wonderful out of clay, from our beginner hand building classes all the way through to raku firing.

Our Courses
Beginners throwing class £70
2 hours
The class covers all of the basics you need to get you going, from how to use a wheel, wedging the clay and centering in a small class of 3 people.
Once you have had time to get used to the process you will be guided in making a shallow bowl and a tall pot.
You can have your items fire at the studio for you to collect in 2 weeks time, and you can paint them with our glazes for an additional £10.

Hand building

Our next hand building class focuses on pinch pot animals
A small class with a maximum of 5 people where you will learn how to turn a ball of clay into a fantastic pinch pot animal of your choice.
You will be taught how to join your pinch pots securely, build on the base shape to make a realistic animal, and add texture and character to bring it to life.
Your animal will be bisque fired, and in two weeks you can choose to come back to the studio to paint your animal with our glazes for an additional £15, or you can take it to paint at home.
Introduction to
Raku £190
2 day course (over two weekends)
In this exciting new course our raku expert Darren, will guide you in coil building a vase or a sculpture and then show you how to fire them in his custom made raku kiln.
Day 1: Learning the ancient technique of coil building a vase or sculpture of your choice in a small group of 3 people.
Day 2: Burnishing your piece, glazing, firing and the art of using combustibles to achieve dramatic effects on the clay.
Your piece will be ready for you to take home at the end of the second day.
